Round up of Term 3 week 5

Friday was Miss Tisch's last day with us. Hopefully the children told you about the yummy baking she did for them and the staff as well.

One of the last activities she did with the children relating to the Olympic unit was to play 'Kahoot' with them. Kahoot is an internet based site where multi choice questions are set, the children connect to the site on their I pads and are able to answer the questions. The questions were set by Lydia and based around the Olympic unit she had taught.

Louisa, Malia, Connor and Leo waiting to see whether their answer is correct.

One of the 12 questions asked.

You can see how focused they are.
A fitness session led by Lydia.
This week is pretty normal, on Thursday Lily Bray begins school and on Friday we are holding a Mini Olympics. The children will find out tomorrow what country they are representing. A note will go home tomorrow explaining what is to happen. . They will be asked to wear a T shirt or top with one of their country's colours that they are representing. They can wear their track pants or school sports shorts.
Also on Tuesday 'Hip Hop' starts for the Rutherford and Shepherd teams. This will run for the next 4 Tuesdays!! Should be fun.

Kind regards,
Mary

Round up of Term 3 week 3

Hi Every-one

This week the Olympics were our major focus. In writing we discovered facts about Brazil and then we had to share this information with our buddy.

We only concentrated on facts that would interest them.
In Art they got to make an Olympic torch.

Luciano and Grace

Louisa, Lucy and Malia.

Molly and Zoe Elise.

Zoe is proud of her torch.
Today the Olympic Rings were the focus and they were all most excited when they found out they were going to make the rings out of biscuits and ice them.

Grace icing her biscuit.

Carter and Ethan.

Holding up their Olympic Rings!
For the coming week Monday is our important day being "'Our Feast Day".
The children come in full school uniform. The bell is going at 8.55. Mass is at 9.15 and all are welcome. There will be a morning tea and after that the children will go their Groups and engage in their special activity.
For lunch there will be a sausage sizzle. A gold coin donation has been asked for to go to charity.

Update of Term 3 week 2

Hi All

It certainly been a cold weekend--both Liz and myself were down at the netball courts yesterday with our teams-- they were playing in 2 degrees!!

For the staff last week was a buddy week --we were all assigned a buddy and each day we gave them a small gift--no -one knew who their buddy was until all was revealed on Friday.

Here is what Liz's buddy gave her. The children loved it!!

Liz has just put on her disguise.

Taken just before skipping.

Then on Thursday they all got another surprise with the free sausages donated from the Road works team as a thank-you to us and Hoon Hay for the disruption they caused over the last month. Some of the comments from the children--'this is our best day at school!'

This week we have 3 children beginning their Pre entry visits--Connor Stewart, Ella Sisikefu and Lily Bray. We also have the ERO team [Education Review Office] arriving on Wednesday. They will be based in the teacher work room from Wednesday --Friday.

Our topic for the next while  is the Olympics-it would be helpful if you see any interesting pictures of our NZ athletes performing -- eg--in the newspaper --they could bring the clipping for and show it for "Sharing" .

This week we are also preparing for our school's feast day which is next Monday August 15th.  For this day the children will come in their school uniform --no sports gear will be needed. We will start the day with mass at 9.15 am and you are all welcome. After morning tea the children will be involved in 'Acts of Mercy'. The children have already been divided into groups with a Teacher assigned. Tomorrow they will meet with their group and find out what they will be doing. For example I am taking a group to Rowley school and organizing games for their Juniors.

After lunch we have Nicola Coles a New Zealand Rower coming to talk to the school about the Olympics. It should be a fun day!

Kind regards,
Mary
