Round up of Term 2 week 9

Hi Everyone

How good was that to see Rm 1's buddy writing published in this week's newsletter! We have been working on using describing words in our stories to create interest. On Thursday we did some more buddy writing based around a short story that we viewed.

As you can see the children are on task and enjoying it. .
Today the children had a great time in their TRUMP session.

This coming week we have Parent Interviews on Monday,  school closes at 2 pm and there are interviews on Tuesday as well. School finishes at the normal time. Do take the opportunity to go over to the hall to view the wonderful art and music clips--a showcase of this term's work!!

Friday is the famous Mid Winter Breakfast!! All the details are in this week's newsletter. The children come in mufti that day and its a gold coin donation. It is also a gold coin donation for the breakfast. I know it is an early start but you do meet lots of people and the children love it!!

Kind regards,
Mary

Round up of Term 2 Week 8

Taken today--the children in action with their cutting.

Today was Miss Duffel's last day with us. We will all miss her.  Her passion is teaching art and today was her second lesson with the children on producing  a piece of work inspired by one of the artists we saw at the Art Gallery--Reuben Paterson.   A lot of the art work has involved cutting and has been quite difficult but Hannah persevered and the another winning result is shown in the photo below.

Miss Duffel and the children showing their pieces of art inspired by Reuben Paterson.

The children enjoyed another lovely day on Tuesday for their PE. We spent some time on jumping. hopping and skipping.

Preston  going through the jumping circuit.
We played a game of Creep Up.

Zoe D taking her turn.

This coming week is pretty normal. I sent home Religious Education homework today. That does not have to come back to school until Tuesday June 28th. For the last month our strand has been Church. We have visited Our Lady Of the Assumption church a few times. The main theme of this strand is Belonging--to family, school and parish.

If you have the time do come in and look at the work the children have done on "Book Creator" on the green I pad with Liz Hooker.

On Friday reports and Publishing books go home. I Hope you have booked your Interview times. Thinking ahead on Monday July 4 school closes at 2 pm. The next day school finishes at the normal time.

Kind regards,

Mary

Round up of Term 2 week 7

Hi All

This week in Art the children have been looking at the works of  Gordon Walters.

This art work inspired the children's art work.

Today Miss Duffel was focusing on the works of another local artist--Lonnie Hutchinson.

This proved to be a bit of a challenge for the children! It will be a work in progress.

Next week is Hannah Duffel's last week in Room 1.
We welcome Ethan O'Neill and his family to Rm 1 on Monday.
Friday night June 24th is the School Disco. Our slot is 5.30--7 pm.

Kind Regards
Mary

Round up of Term 2 week 6

Hi Everyone,

This week we welcomed Zoe Dunning and her family to Room 1! Zoe had a great start to school with her first day being our trip to the Art Gallery.  We all had a fabulous time there and learnt a lot. Our focus was 'Koru drawings' inspired by local artists; Reuben Patterson, Gordan Walters and Lonie Hutchinson.

Some of the groups were lucky enough to see the "Pip and Pop' exhibition.

Today Miss Duffell took the children for Art and they worked on koru drawings.

Archie concentrating.

Peter and Zoe R.

As you can see they first drew on the whiteboards.

This coming week I have another classroom release day on Tuesday.  Liz Hooker will be teaching. Liz spent some time last Wednesday on an app on the I pads called 'Book Creator'. With the children they made a book on the trip to the Art Gallery--sadly I can't load it on to the blog!!

Ethan O' Neill our last New Entrant for this term will have two visits next week before he starts on Monday June 20th.

You could have heard a pin drop!

I hope you are all enjoying the cheese rolls!!

Kind regards
Mary

Round up of Term 2 week 5

Hi Everyone

Last Friday we watched the play 'Matariki--The Little Eyes in the Sky'. We had 3 actors from the Court Theatre performing the play which they wrote. It was great and the children seem to really enjoy it. I hope they shared some of it with you. When we got back to class after the show we did some 'yellow hat thinking' --that is when you share the good things. Every- one shared something they enjoyed and there were no double ups!

Also on Friday as it was the end of our 'Music focus' the Rutherford team had their performance items filmed. You will see this when you come for Parent Interviews in week 10. By then we will also have a piece of the children's art up on display. This will be all set up in the hall.

Peter, Lucy and Tom were some of the leaders helping with the actions to the Coldplay number.

Preston and Finn performing.

All the Rutherford team. If you look closely you can see Jyla ash and Archie with their instruments.

On Thursday as part of Phonics the children had to choose a partner and see how many words beginning with A they could find around the room.
Jyla and Lucy prefer to spell the words they know beginning with the letter A.

Malia is helping Reuben.

Preston and Tom are absorbed in their task!
On Tuesday to start our Art focus off we have the trip to the Art Gallery. The children need to come in full school uniform. They will need to wear their jumpers/cardigans rather than the polar fleece. As the the trip is a short one --we are leaving school at 10 am and arriving back at 12.00 we will not need to take any food or drink bottles with us. They will have some morning tea before they depart.

We have been learning the prayer the Our Father over the last three weeks. [The prayer is in the back of their homework notebook]. On Friday we began to say it all together rather than repeating after the teacher. I was impressed at how quickly they are picking it up!!
