Round up of Term 1 week 4

Hi Everyone

Another lovely weekend! Many thanks for responding to the call for donations to the Caritas box. This will continue over the Lenten period.

Last week in Religious Education we are also learnt about Jesus and what life was like for him as a 5 year old. On Wednesday and Thursday we focused on the clothes Jesus wore.

Carter is wearing the tunic and mantle like Jesus wore.

On Thursday afternoon the class got dressed up like Jesus and went to the library wearing the special clothes.

On Mondays in our 'Writing Slot' the theme is weekend experiences. We usually start with the children sharing with a buddy something they had done.

Just before we begin writing as a transition from Maths to Writing I put on a movement clip from the 'Go Noodle' site. Its amazing!

Here they are doing movement to 'Hip Hop Astronaut'.

In this coming week on Tuesdays in March for PE we have Ben from 'the Small Sticks' introducing the children to Hockey skills. Because he is doing it for Year 1-6  our slot will be at 10 am.

This Friday our class and Rm 2 will attend Mass at 9.15 am in the church. You are all welcome. The children are to come in school uniform that day. Sports uniform is not needed. After mass Father Kevin will come and talk to the two classes.

Finally I have pasted in the back of their homework notebooks a copy of the' Hail Mary' for your child to learn. We do say it every morning and most of them can recite some part of it independently. The Hail Mary is the traditional prayer that they are required to learn in Year 1.

Kind regards,
Mary

Round up of Term 1 week 3

Hi Every-one,

It was lovely to see so many of you at the classroom meetings last Thursday!

In the week just gone we took the Numicon shapes outside to trace around.

Archie and Preston hard at work.

Some of the boys in discussion about how they can join the Numicon shapes together.

On Wednesdays with Liz Hooker the children get to do Art. Drawing is the theme at the moment.
Jyla ash, Finn and Carter.

You can see what a good job Lucy is making of drawing the objects beside her.

In PE we are working on our ball skills.

In my last blog I highlighted the Lenten box. We are now entering into the 3rd week of Lent and if your child just once this week was able to bring a small contribution to the Caritas Lenten box it would be most appreciated.
Tomorrow as you all know is the 5th anniversary of the Quake. We will be joining with Hoon Hay school to participate in a short memorial service. To mark the first anniversary of the Quake we planted a tree on the border of both schools. We will meet there tomorrow just before
12. 51 pm.

Regards
Mary

Update of Term 1 week 2

Hi All

I hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather this weekend!

It was fantastic last week to see the children better acquainted with routines and making progress in all areas.

This was taken during their first week. Last week our fitness involved relays.

Here as above the children are exploring our new maths resource--Numicon.
On Fridays the children get the opportunity to read silently from their Browsing boxes.

This coming week we have Classroom meetings on Thursday Feb 18th. The first session is at 3.15 and the second for those who cannot make the first is at 6pm. These are very informative --explaining what the children are learning and how you can help at home. They only go for 30 mins max!!

Also with Lent starting last week we will spend one of our Religious Education lessons on the Lenten season. Tomorrow I will introduce the Lenten money box. I ask for you help in this; in that the children can bring a small amount of money say 20c to put in the box during prayer time over the next six weeks. A small amount once a week. The money will go to the Lenten appeal run by Caritas.

Preston helping Reuben with his buttons.
I just this was lovely and sums up our School's Special Character!

Regards,
Mary

Overview of Term 1 week 1 2016

Hi All

I hope you all have had a lovely weekend. Last week it was all about settling the class into routines.

I was impressed with them all on Tuesday as they really got into the morning routines.

Here they are concentrating on their writing. The topic was the 'Pool' and they had previously shared with us all what they love to do in the water.

For Fitness this week we used hoops. This week in fitness we will be concentrating on relays.
Each of the children had a chance to be the Leader and the other children followed. You can see Finn, Tom and Lucy has her back to us.
The children have loved using the I pads. Some remembered playing the maths app 'Hungry Fish'.
Last week I introduced them to 'Doodle Buddy and Pic Collage--both require their creativity. At times we worked with a buddy.
Jyla ash and Peter working together on Doodle Buddy.
This week on Wednesday is Ash Wednesday the start of Lent. The school will be attending mass so the children need to come to school in their school uniform. No sports uniform will be needed that day. Also that day Mrs Liz Hooker my release teacher will begin teaching. This will happen every Wednesday. Some of you may already know Liz, she has two of her children at our school.

You would have seen in the school newsletter that we have "Classroom Meetings Thursday Feb 18th.  In this session I will explain the classroom routines to you and what we aim to teach your child this term particularly in Numeracy and Literacy.

This week I will start up the main responsibilities for Class Leader and Prayer Monitor. The children will all get a turn throughout the term. The names of the children starting this week will be up on the Whiteboard.

Kind regards,
Mary
