Round up of Term 1 week 8

Hi All

This week being one of great importance in the Church's year a lot of our time was spent studying events that occurred during Holy Week.

This is the poster we created for the School Easter Liturgy on Palm Sunday.

We did do maths and reading!!

These three are seeing how many ways they can make 5.

After Easter and what will be a shorter  week 9  Mrs Liz Hooker will be teaching each day as I will be away for my niece Erin's wedding.

I hope you are enjoying a lovely break.

Kind regards,

Mary

Round up of Term 1 Week 7

Hi All

This week Liz Hooker was in the class for two days. One of the highlights for the children was making jelly on Thursday. The sound of the day was J.

They are all either eating the jelly or have finished it.
In Religious Education the children made some wonderful crosses.

Finn adding some touches to his cross. Liz will have them up on display this week.

This week is a very important season in the Church's year--Holy Week. The children will be exploring the events of Holy Thursday and Good Friday. On Thursday there will be a special Easter Liturgy in the hall at 2.15. You are all very welcome.

We all are looking forward to the Easter break. Have a lovely relaxing time.

Kind regards,
Mary

Round up of Term 1 week 6

Hi Every-one

Friday's mufti day was enjoyed by all and the student council raised over $450.00 for the Fiji relief effort!!

We had our second session of hockey skill on Tuesday.

Carter, Reuben, Archie and Peter at the start of the lesson.

Here is Room 2 and 1 all ready to play 'Creep up Granny'.

Lucy and Finn in the distance freezing.

Tom, Reuben and Jyla enjoying the game.

The  above three photos show the children practicing their dribbling.
In Religious Education the children are enjoying learning and experiencing what life was like for Jesus when he was 5.

They are sampling some of the food that Jesus would have eaten.

On Mondays we spend our RE lesson on Lent and events leading up to Holy week. Last Monday we went over to the Church and looked at the Stations of the Cross. Tomorrow we will spend  the lesson looking at pictures of Palm Sunday, which is the start of Holy week. As a school we will be observing the Holy week events in an Easter Liturgy to be held in the hall on Thursday March 24th at 2.15 approx. All are welcome. Room 1's contribution to this important event is to design a poster about Palm Sunday.

This week I will be out of the classroom on Wednesday as usual and then on Thursday for my CRT-[classroom release time]. Liz Hooker will cover that day also. Hockey skills continue on Tuesday.

Kind regards
Mary

Round up of Term 1 week 5

Hi All

I hope you have enjoyed going through your child's Publishing book. I am proud of the progress that they have made to date in all areas of the curriculum.

A big thank-for having the children in their school uniform on Friday! After going to mass Fr Kevin came over to speak to our class and Room 2. He was most impressed hearing what the children knew about the Lenten season and that they were contributing regularly to the Caritas box.

This week in Maths the children have been introduced to two new concepts--teen numbers and odd and even numbers.

Finn is explaining what teen number he has made. You can work out the teen number that Archie has formed.

Carter, Tom and Lucy are counting on from 10 to their teen number of 16.
Teen numbers are a hard concept for  young children. The numicon is brilliant because its so hands on.
Even numbers to 10 ordered from the smallest to the biggest.

You would have heard about our TRUMP sessions on Fridays. Here is the sample of some of the activities that is on offer.

Lucy and Jyla ash in the dress up corner.

They were keen for me to take this second shot. A lot of giggling was going on here!

You might wonder with the girls getting dressed up and the boys building-- this was all the boys second choice! They all either been on I pads or the computers and the rule is once on a device then they have to opt for a creative choice.

Archie and Preston playing 'Marble blast'.

Tom and Peter working at the Creative table.

We did have Hockey skills on Tuesday and I did take photos but forgot to upload them. The children really enjoyed themselves. Our second session is this coming Tuesday.

The only new thing to note for this coming week is Mufti day Friday March 11. There will be a donation required to go towards the disaster in Fiji.

Kind regards,
Mary
